John McCurley, MD, Joins The Medical Group of Saint Joseph's

The Medical Group of Saint Joseph’s has announced that John McCurley, MD has joined the practice as the founding member of primary care services, complementing cardiology and the internal medicine  programs currently available.  Dr. McCurley continues his practice at the Cowles Clinic location in Lake Oconee where he also serves as the director, Cowles Clinic Executive Health program.


"We are excited to expand our program to include primary care," says Vickie Jenkins, director, Saint Joseph’s physician services.  "The Medical Group of Saint Joseph’s was established as a multi-specialty practice and Dr. McCurley complements and expands the current services for the benefit of our patients."


Dr. McCurley served as the staff internal medicine physician in the Office of the Attending Physician to the U.S. Congress, the National Naval Medical Center and the Naval Health Clinic in Annapolis, Md. 

Dr. McCurley also served as an Assistant Professor of Medicine for Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, Bethesda, Md prior to joining the Medical Group of Saint Joseph’s. The Medical Group of Saint Joseph’s has offices at Cowles Clinic in Lake Oconee and on the Saint Joseph’s Hospital campus in Sandy Springs, Ga.  Physicians at the Cowles Clinic location include cardiologists Stephen Frohwein, MD, Nicolas Chronos, MD, and Peter Lavine, MD, and office personnel Tess Van Malsen, Sharon Postell, RN, and Crystal Brown, MA.

The cardiology practice at Cowles Clinic provides physician coverage five days a week and offers full services including a Coumadin clinic, echocardiograms, EKGs, pacemaker checks, defibrillator checks, stress echos, nuclear stress tests, exercise treadmills, routine lab work and cardiac surgery clearances. 

The Cowles Clinic, a multi-specialty medical campus, was founded by Robert S. Cowles III, MD to meet the health-care needs of the growing Lake Oconee and surrounding communities and offers world-class treatment for the common, chronic and acute health problems.  Saint Joseph’s is one of the top 50 hospitals in the U.S. and recently purchased Minnie G. Boswell Memorial Hospital in Greene County with plans to build a regional facility to serve the Greene, Putnam and Morgan county areas.
